Properly Pretty: Miami Nights
While it’s not really my bag, I have been around enough to know that Miami nightlife girls like their makeup. I like to call it the Kim Kardashian face, but with a wider color scheme and a little less ass in face. It’s sexy and sultry and full of lash n’ shine.
Last night I worked on a shoot with the intended look that of a hot Miami club-goer. Here’s me and model Greta.

Start with an eye base to make the shadows stick. Choose a monochromatic shadow scheme that has a light, medium, and dark shade of the same color and an extra, more primary shade, for a little pop at the end. I chose to work with purples so my light was a shimmery pink, my medium a muted but rich purple, and my dark a slightly more matte black/purple, and my pop a bright primary purple.

Cover the entire lid with the light color using a small flat eye brush. Take a stiff, not huge, blender brush and create a crease line under the brow bone with the dark color. Next, use the same color and sweep along the lash line, from about ¾ in up to meet the crease line, creating a winged-out effect. Take the medium color, again with a blender brush, and use it shade where the light color hits the dark color. Go back over the lid and inner corner with the light color if you’d like to bring back some brightness you may have lost. Finally take a tad of your pop color, on any small shadow brush, and place just a bit on the outer edge of the light lid.
For the liner, take a black liquid liner, I used Makeup Forever, and create a little but of a wing, following the shading you made with the shadow. Before it dries, use a q-tip or smudge brush to soften it with upward strokes into the shadow. Take a black pencil liner and line ¾ of the bottom lid up to meet the top line. Soften. Line inner eye if desired.
Definitely add some lashes if you can and use a ton of mascara.
For the lips it’s all about the shine. This must be why some people need to wear sunglasses at night, inside. I used Dior Addict in Nylon Pink.
I got to work with Sheenon again-always a pleasure. He gave me tips to making a bigger calf muscle (do tippy-toe lifts somewhere like a curb or step for full-range of motion. it burns). He used Unite Boosta Spray to give volume and help curls stay.

A word to the wise: don’t plan a clubbing trip to Miami in August. There’s no point wearing makeup in this kind of heat.
